If you love your instant messaging on Whatsapp and use it everyday then you’ll want to ensure that you don’t lose your message history or shared media such as pictures or videos. What happens when you buy a new phone and want to see all your previous conversations and media? Worst still, what happens if you lose your phone? Of course you can create a manual backup to your phone memory and copy it over to your PC then over to your new phone but this isn’t exactly the easiest of processes.
Whatsapp have now partnered with Google Drive to make life easier for Android users and allow you to create a private Whatsapp backup of all your chat histories, voice messages, and media in just a couple of clicks direct to your Google account. You can simply restore your data when setting up the app for the first time on your new phone or if you have had to perform a factory reset on your current phone.
This feature is said to be rolling out now but it is a staggered rollout so you should see this feature come to your phone within the next month or two. You can check this by going into Whatsapp, then go into Settings then Chats and Calls and the option should appear near the usual local backup chats option.
